We’ve officially been in our new studio a week! We love being more flexible with appointments, take new clients, and all the SPACE! Each stylist has her own room as opposed to the old single room with 2 beds and reception and waiting area! Another great upgrade is our tanning room. No more long treks through Bella Strada. We still offer all the same services and products with all the same lash stylists. Our new studio fabulously decorated with Debbie Curtis paintings. Now that it’s getting a little warmer outside, more clients are starting to get spray tans! We love spray tans. We especially love our spray tans. Instead of a machine blasting you with orangey mist, you are sprayed by an actual person who can customize your the color and placement of your tan. If you don’t want it on your face, you don’t have to have it on your face! If you want it darker on your legs (or only on your legs), you got it. We take all the proper pre-tanning steps to make sure you don’t have streaks, or awkward tan creases on your hands, knees, elbows, and ankles. But we get it, apprehension always accompanies spray tans. After all, we don’t want to look like Chester Cheeto.Here are some FAQs and answers to better inform you about the spray tanning process:

Q: What do I wear?
A: While you are getting your spray tan, you are free to wear as little or as much as you’d like. Men must wear boxers. After you leave, we highly recommend loose fitting cotton clothing, preferably darker colored clothes.

Q: What do I need to do before I come for my spray tan?
A: Before getting a spray tan, please exfoliate your body with a loofa and regular soap. No need to use your best sea salt scrub; just a regular loofa wash will do. Also, do not wear any lotions. Basically, you want dry skin, and since shaving will cause your tan to come off quicker, you will probably want to shave.

Q: How long until I can shower or workout?
A: The tanning solution takes 6-8 hours to fully develop. Morning tanners can shower that night before bed. Evening tanners should probably wait until the following morning. Working out probably isn’t a great idea until after your first shower. Otherwise, you’ll have brownish/orange sweat all over your clothing. Yuck!

Q: How long does it last? How can I maintain my tan as long as possible?
A: A tan should last 5-10 days if properly taken care of. Waiting 6-8 hours to shower, less shaving, less sweating, less scrubs/exfoliants, and moisturizing your body all really help maintain your tan for a solid 7 days. Also, be very very careful washing your hands for about an hour or two after your tan. Water splashing up on your arm leaves little white speckles.

Q: Why do I have weird lines on my neck and arms? And why do I look extra dark several hours after my tan?
A: The tanning solution we use has a bronzer in it allowing us accurately tan every part of your body. Plus, it gives you an instant glow and gratification! The actual tan, however, is clear. This means that as the clear tan starts to develop and darken underneath the bronzer, you somewhat will look “double dark.”  Whatever you do, do not try to wipe off this double darkness or a gritty-looking brown streak on your neck. It will cause the entire tan to come off, and then, you’ll have a white neck. Good news: this will all go away after your first shower. After the shower, that will be your actual color for the next 5-10 days. Don’t worry!!

Q: I’m already really fair-skinned, and I’m afraid of looking orange. What colors do you have?
A: Fair-skinned clients end up having tans just a gorgeous as olive or dark-skinned clients. We have 3 different levels of solutions, and occasionally, we mix two solutions together to create a light-medium or medium-dark tan.  Rest assured by knowing that the Eye Candy Lash Studio employee knows exactly the perfect solution for you!

There are times when we have clients come in and tell us, “I lost a lot of lashes since my last fill.” There are many things that can contribute to premature lash loss, including excessive steam (i.e. a facial or steam shower), heat, sweat, tears, saltwater, etc. We want your lashes to last as long as possible, so that is why we want to really emphasize one of our awesome products: protective coating. Protective coating is like insurance for your lashes. When clients invest so much money and time on their lashes, we want to do everything we can to protect their lashes, maintain longevity, and get the absolute best aesthetic results. As a result, clients lose fewer lashes, maintain gorgeous length and volume, and can go for a longer time between fills.

The protective coating is a “unique formula” that “coats and seals the attachment area between the extension and the natural lash, creating a protective barrier against oil, perspiration, dust and debris.” Although the protective coating is highly recommended for our active and athletic clients, it is a great idea for anyone that has lash extensions. It’s like hairspray for your lashes! Don’t have lash extensions? The protective coating can be used on eyebrows also to hold them in place. It can easily be applied, and only needs to be used twice a week. Did we mention that a tube of protective coating lasts up to one year?

We continue to see poor application from some other salons offering deals on group buying sites. When choosing a lash stylist, be sure to do your homework and make sure he or she is directory certified by Xtreme Lashes. Properly applied eyelash extensions should take about two hours for a full set. Our full set has up to 90 extensions per eye. Be sure to compare what each salon considers a full set, sometimes one place may seem less expensive, when you are really getting more lashes for your money elsewhere. If a deal seems to good to be true, it probably is.

This client called us today after redeeming a deal from a group buying site and wanted these lashes removed ASAP. She said, “I can’t go to work like this tomorrow, I need these off as soon as possible.” She told us when she came into the studio that when the technician was finished, she looked in the mirror and the lashes were so long that they looked ridiculous. She told her stylist that it wasn’t what she had in mind, so the stylist trimmed them with scissors! She went home thinking that maybe she just needed to get used to them, but they became uncomfortable and she still hated the way they looked. She called the salon and asked if the stylist could remove them and her response was that she “was pretty booked”.

We can’t say enough about this product! We have lots of clients who have seen fabulous results with this new lash & brow fortifier. Some just want longer, fuller natural lashes so that they can have more dramatic lash extensions, while others are corrective clients who are trying to help their lashes get healthy after a poor application elsewhere.

This client came to us after having a bad experience at another salon. Her lashes were very thin and damaged. Xtreme Lashes just came out with a brand new line of lashes, the X-50′s! We tried them out on some clients today and were really happy with the result. Most of our clients currently wear the X-40′s, which give a beautiful, naturally curled look. These new lashes have a more dramatic curl perfect for those with very straight natural lashes or clients looking for a more dramatic result.

These lashes can be mixed in with the X-40′s to achieve a little bit of drama with a fuller, more feathery look. We can also do an entire set with these for a very bold look–similar to the dramatic effect of strip lashes.

A client recently came to our studio after getting “eyelash extensions” from another salon. She complained that her lashes felt uncomfortable and her eyes were very irritated after the procedure.

Anna examined her lashes and quickly realized the other technician had applied lash clusters or “flares” instead of individual eyelash extensions. These clusters are extremely heavy and can cause a lot of damage to the natural lashes. If worn over a long period of time, they will cause permanent damage to the eyelash follicles.

This application is a short-cut used by improperly trained technicians to attempt to achieve a full look in a short period of time. Our full set of eyelash extensions takes 2 hours because we apply up to 90 synthetic lashes per eye one by one to your individual lashes. If eyelash extensions are properly applied by a trained stylist, they will not cause any damage to your natural lashes.

Beware of salons who claim to apply a “full set” in 30 minutes!
